H ula Hoops are hypnotic - sparkling hoops twirling with ease around legs, arms, necks and hips!
Hula hoop acts are wonderfully fun and can involve single performers, or can be part of an ensemble performance. Hula hooping is a performance art, a mixture of circus skills and dance combining balance, poise and extreme coordination!
The hula hoop emerged in the world of circus in the 1960s. Circus artists take the hula hoop performance to extremes hooping crazy amounts of hoops at one time and combining contortion, fire and aerials in their routine.
Although the exact origins of hula hoops are unknown, children around the world have played with hoops, twirling, rolling and throwing them throughout history. Hooping is now popular with adults, as a fitness and fun activity.
Variations on the form
- Hula hoops can also be used as part of an aerial routine, creating a twirling spinning sparkling aerialist...reminiscent of Saturn and it's rings!
- Hula hoop can be used as a solo act or choreographed with any number of people to spectacular effect!
Staging requirements
Ground based hula routines simply need enough area to provide a clear spin - usually around three square meters.
